Because my workday was super long (or, at least, it felt that way), I’m going to rapid-fire the movies I watched in July with a yes, no, or maybe and why.

Yes. I didn’t think it would be my type of film, but I found myself enjoying the performances. 8.9/10

Maybe. I think you have to be in a certain mood and a certain kind of humor before approaching this. 7.9/10

Maybe. It’s gorgeous, and the performances are very strong, but you definitely have to like a certain kind of brooding or be in a brooding sort of mood. Also, I think this is one of the closest adaptations to the book I’ve seen! 8.7/10

Maybe. A rewatch for me (many times over). A must if you love musicals. Points for the ‘Reproduction’ song. 8.8/10

Yes! I didn’t know what I expected going into the movie, but I left all red-eyed, snotty-nosed, and mumbling “fuck you, movie”. 9/10

No. Either your story and your characters are strong, or they aren’t. Don’t try to engineer a reaction. It should be organic. 4.5/10

Yes. This was another rewatch. I have always enjoyed this adaptation/take on Cinderella, and I love Drew Barrymore, so there! 8.9/10

Yes! If you’re uncomfortable while watching this movie, you’re supposed to be. Yes, Bear is a horrible human. Everyone in the film did a terrific job. If Inde Navarrette doesn’t win a slew of awards, I am going to be surprised and then pissed off on her behalf. 9.4/10

Absolutely fuckin’ not. I didn’t even finish it. It is definitely a product of a certain time and aesthetic. 1/10

No. I have enjoyed Chevy Chase in exactly one movie, and this wasn’t it. There are parts that are mildly amusing, but I don’t have the kind of love for this that other people (particularly in my family) do. 5/10

Yes! Is it high art? No. Did I have a lot of fun with it? Absolutely! 8.8/10

I think I ended July pretty strongly, and I didn’t even include the two Jekyll and Hyde adaptations to this list. My movie watching for August has started off slowly, but I’m hoping to pick up the pace this weekend.
