All Fauxn Up

She, like everyone else, is only pretending to know what she's doing

PTO Days

I’m not the type of person who saves her paid time off to use for extended vacations. I’ve never actually had the travel bug. I might be convinced to take that sort of vacation depending on where I’m going and who is going to be there, but I am content to stay home most of the time. All my stuff is here! So when I take time off, it’s usually Monday-Tuesday, Thursday-Friday, or Friday-Monday so I can have a long weekend.

That is to say, I had today off.

Most of my posts have focused on non-personal topics. Anyone who stops by my little space on the internet can glean some information about me from the books I read and the movies I’ve been watching. Add a few shorter posts that skim the surface of who Siemelle is, and I think most readers will get the gist.

Introvert? Check.

Bookworm? Absolutely.

Weird horror woman who would have Pinhead’s babies? Don’t you judge me!

Today, I am going to give you a day in the life (get ready for the boredom) of my day off.

On my days off and on the weekend, I set an alarm for 5 am. Today was no different, but because my bladder decided it had jokes, I woke up a little before my alarm was set to go off. No problem. I rolled out of bed, obeyed my bladder, and immediately set to work reading. Do I schedule how many hours a day I want to read? You bet your ass. On weekdays, I typically read a little at work when I can and, at night, I usually get a solid hour of uninterrupted reading. Today, I wanted to get two hours in, and mornings are perfect for this because it’s super quiet.

This morning, I read from two different books:

Don’t mind the blanket. My aunt made it for me when I was born. So, Fall for Him is okay. I didn’t realize when I purchased it that it is book two in a series. I do this all the time – either I don’t bother to check, or I do check and am misinformed. So reading this feels like I am missing some important pieces of information. As for Stay for a Spell, it is a cozy fantasy so cute I can’t stand it. In other words, I am enjoying it, and it might be one of the few books this year that I actually keep to reread. Behold, I have successfully completed my reading goal for today.

Because I had things I needed to do today, I eventually had to put my books down, make my bed, shower, and get ready to leave.

First order of business? I had a stack of books sitting in the front room waiting to be rehomed. Books I read and knew I would never read again. Books I tried to read but didn’t finish because they weren’t for me. I hopped on over to my local bookstore to make the donation. Of course, since I was there anyway, I had to look through to see if anything wanted to come home with me.

Spoiler: six of them totally did.

If they have books one and two, you are legally obligated to purchase them both.

I may have bought one for the cover and the other because I am trying to incorporate classical literature into my TBR pile.

I heard good things about them both, so I am willing to give them a go.

After leaving there, I considered going to Ross because I like looking at their skincare options. Stores like Ross, Beall’s Outlet, Burlington, etc., are all really good places to go when you are looking for discounted items. I have bought many under-eye masks at these stores! I’ve also bought face washes (less successful, since my skin freaks out if it doesn’t like a product), face masks, hair products, etc. If you’re sleeping on these stores, don’t! Since I already have a supply of the items I use, I skipped Ross and headed to the grocery store.

My least favorite place.

I feel like I spend an inordinate amount of time in grocery stores.

It was in a grocery store where I realized that I may not be a nice person. Or a patient person. Whenever I go to grocery stores, I decimate people in my head because it’s apparently unacceptable to bash into their Achilles ‘ heels with your shopping cart.

I got through it.

I’m still not sure how I made it.

From the grocery store to the other side of town to the bank.

Nothing to note there.

Then I decided to go to CVS. I may have mentioned it once in a post, but for a solid three weeks (most of October), I had flu-like symptoms and had to go to urgent care for constant sinus pain, headache, sore throat, and earaches. After two rounds of antibiotics, I am finally feeling normal. Or as normal as Siemelle gets! Because I don’t care to experience that unpleasantness again, I decided to get both a flu shot and a COVID shot.

Did you know CVS has started shifting away from mass-market paperbacks? So, yeah, I also stepped out of that store with these:

Note the damage to the upper right-hand corner of the books (more noticeable on one than the other). CVS has demon stickers. Stickers that not even my plastic scraping tool could defeat. On the plus side, they were both marked down, and after coupons, one was a little over three dollars and the other a little over two.

Overstimulated and hungry, my last stop was to swing by Walmart and pick up my prescription. You’ll be happy to know that I didn’t stray away from the pharmacy and back to the book section. I displayed self-control.

Only because I knew I had packages delivered while I was running errands.

Shut up.

I had one book from Amazon waiting for me.

I also had an order from World of Books (my new favorite online place to get used books).

As you can see, all books in this order are in various states of wear and tear, and one is a library copy. If you don’t mind your books having a little character (no pun intended), World of Books is a good option!

My time with the outside world was done for the day, so I mainly sat around for a couple of hours watching YouTube videos. For dinner, I ordered Chili’s – 3 for me: a chicken sandwich with fries, potato soup, and a blackberry iced tea, which they always forget to make blackberry and instead always just give me unsweetened tea. You think I would learn my lesson and get lemonade, but I hope one day they will not do me dirty with that unsweetened travesty.

That’s been my day so far.

Oh, by the way, just in case you don’t already think I have a book-buying problem, let me solidify this with two other books I received this week:

You see that offending sticker on K.A. Linde’s book? I also bought this at CVS earlier this week. I am now terrified of what trying to remove it will do to the cover.

That brings us to what I have planned for the rest of the night.

It is almost ten o’clock. I still have to do my skincare routine. Tonight I will cleanse, put on a face mask, and then moisturize. I will sit down and plan out Saturday. It should be an easy day, since it’s Halloween, but I’m sure there are still to-dos to complete. Then I may try to fit in a movie. I have been wanting to rewatch Return of the Living Dead (1985). Sadly, I didn’t watch many movies this month, and definitely not many horror films. Hopefully I can fit in a few this weekend before Mariah thaws out.

Have a safe, happy Halloween, everyone!

Siemelle
